Best In The Desert Announces Actions to Mitigate Potential Risk of COVID-19 Virus at Jagged X National Desert Cup Presented by Quantum Motorsports

LAS VEGAS, NV (Mar. 13, 2020): Best in the Desert, America’s largest off-road racing organization, announced today that it is taking precautions to mitigate the potential risk of the Covid-19 virus at the upcoming Jagged X National Desert Cup presented by Quantum Motorsports on March 20-22, 2020.

Recognizing that the health and safety of racers, pit crews, staff, and volunteers remain the highest priority, Best In The Desert is taking the following steps to ensure racers are competing in a safe racing environment and that the event continues as planned:

1. Drivers Meetings and all large group gatherings are being restructured. Driver’s Meetings will now be held “LIVE” on Best In The Desert’s Facebook and Instagram channels. As a result, Method Race Wheels Driver’s Meeting Social Hour will not take place.
2. Best In The Desert requests that only Driver of Record/Co-Drivers/Riders come to registration. Please leave pit crew and other family members behind in the pits.
3. The after-race awards ceremony will not be held. Trophies will be presented at the Ford Mesa finish line podium.
4. Best In The Desert will be taking additional sanitation precautions by providing hand sanitizer or hand-wash stations in Port-a-Johns, at registration, and other public areas.
5. Registration will be closed to the public. Only drivers/co-drivers/riders should attend.

“We take the Covid-19 matter very seriously and want to make sure our racers, pit crews, staff, and volunteers are protected as much as possible,” commented Best In The Desert CMO Bryan Folks. “We want to remind everyone who participates in our event the importance of following preventative measures such as washing hands, avoiding direct contact with fellow racers, covering your mouth when coughing, and keeping a safe distance as much as possible from other people,” added Folks. “In particular, we ask that anyone who is not feeling well, has a temperature, or experiencing flu-like symptoms not attend the race.”

Because Best In The Desert events are held outdoors with limited exposure to large groups in confined settings, the organization feels it is safe to continue with the event and has received permission from Clark County Parks and Recreation as of Friday, March 13, 2020, to do so.

Based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback received from those entered in the event and who want to see the race run as planned, Best In The Desert is working hard to ensure that all regulations are met concerning safety protocols surrounding the Covid-19 virus. To date, 176 entries are signed up for the Jagged X National Desert Cup Presented by Quantum Motorsports and the organization plans to have a great race.

“We realize we are in new unchartered territory with the recent news about the Covid -19 virus. We want to be proactive and sensitive to our racers’ health while also considering their overwhelming support for the race to continue as planned. If any of our racers do not feel comfortable competing in the race we will gladly refund their entry fee,” stated Race Operations Mgr., Donald Jackson. “We look forward to hosting this amazing off-road event especially under the new supercross-style racing format.”
