Class 6200 Open-Wheeled Single & Two-Seat Unlimited Vehicles with Spec Engines Only
Posted January 8, 2017
With the spectacular growing popularity of the Class 6100 Spec Engine Trick Trucks, Best In The Desert recognized the need for an equivalent class for open-wheeled race vehicles. This new class will allow owners of older or newer unlimited Class 1500 compliant cars to run in an extremely competitive class without being faced with the expense of having to maintain a very high cost unlimited engine.
The new Class 6200 has been in development by Best In The Desert for over a year and represents a concentrated effort to move forward in technology when considering new race vehicle classifications. Best In The Desert Casey Folks had this to say about the new class, “With the incredible growth and close competition of the 6100 trucks, we recognized the need to offer the open-wheel racers the same opportunity.” He continued by stating, “Often times in any unlimited class, the outcome can come down to how fat a racer’s wallet is and a big ticket engine. We figured it was about time to take steps to control that kind of rising costs and present an unlimited car class that truly put the competition back in the hands of the racers and their driving skills.”
With the exception of the Spec Engines, Class 6200 is an unlimited open-wheeled car, much the same as Class 1500. Vehicle chassis will be permitted to have unlimited suspension design and travel, but must utilize independent rear suspensions only. No solid rear axle suspensions are allowed. Also, tires are limited to a 37-inch maximum size.
There are three Spec Engine packages from Ford and General Motors designated for use in the new Class 6200:
1. General Motors LS3 6.2L V8 engine kit part number 19301326 (Rev 5/19/14) with wire loom and control pack part number 19258270. This is the same engine that is currently being run in the Class 6100 Spec Engine Trick Trucks.
2. Ford 3.5L twin-turbo EcoBoost® V6 engine and control pack part number M-6000-35TK.
3. Ford 3.5L twin-turbo, intercooled DOHC 24-valve, EcoBoost® V6 engine part number HS-382-AA, with 10-speed automatic transmission part number HL3P-7000-NE. This is the same engine combination being featured in the all-new 2017 Ford Raptor.
