Posted May 5, 2017
The anticipation is building as Best In The Desert brings their high level of desert racing excitement to Laughlin, Nevada next week as their Car and Truck Classes take center stage with four days of spectacular special events and fun-filled activities beginning Thursday, May 11. All the festivities lead up to a full slate of non-stop racing action on Saturday and Sunday.
Donald Jackson, Operations Manager for Best in the Desert said, “We’re extremely excited and anxiously looking forward to next week’s Laughlin Desert Classic. This marks our second year working along with the Laughlin Tourism Commission to present this incredibly exciting event for our racers and everyone involved. Laughlin is the perfect location for this specially formatted race and all the activities associated with it. The Laughlin Desert Classic proved last year to be an extraordinarily competitive ‘Duel in the Desert’ and we expect this year’s edition to be even better.”
Laughlin is a wonderful location for off-road desert racing. Hotels, restaurants and entertainment establishments are all close to the heart of the racing action. The Laughlin Tourism Commission is known for its impressive list of year-round special events, and the Method Race Wheels Laughlin Desert Classic presented by Canidae Tap It has already become another “must attend” star on their calendar.
The fun and excitement kicks off Thursday, May 11, with the Time Trials for Trick Trucks and Class 1500 Unlimited Cars to see who is the fastest and claim the $1,000 “Team Ford” Pole Award. Next up is the Parade of Champions. This is an ultimate display of “eye candy” as exotic race vehicles fire up their high-powered engines and rumble down Casino Blvd., shaking the pavement beneath them along the way. Thursday wraps up with the great Method Race Wheels Welcome Party.
Friday, May 12, brings another full day of race related activities starting off with the Family Poker Run. Drivers’ registration gets underway Friday morning at the Aquarius Casino Resort. Just down Casino Blvd. from the Aquarius, Tech & Contingency will take place in the Tropicana Laughlin parking lot. This is where race fans and locals will have the opportunity to check out all of the race vehicles as they weave their way through contingency row, plus take in first hand the hottest off-road and racing accessories on display from the industry’s top manufacturers.
Racing roars into two full days of seemingly nonstop incredible wheel-to-wheel competition, Saturday and Sunday. Multiple heats of races will run based on the different vehicle classes. Racers will battle the challenging terrain and each other over the specialized 16-mile course. Race fans can capture all the action from the designated free spectator area adjacent to the Laughlin Off-Road Park. Here they’ll be able to witness and feel the high power energy of the side-by-side drag race style starts, deep switch-backs, the famous Laughlin Leap, and so much more.
The Method Race Wheels Laughlin Desert Classic presented by Canidae Tap It also marks the third leg in Best In The Desert’s 2017 Trick Truck Challenge featuring 16 of the world’s top Trick Truck drivers, including Jason Voss, Rob MacCachren, Andy McMillin, Lalo Laguna, Justin Lofton, Steve Olliges, Clyde Stacy and more. With $96,000 up for grabs over the span of the year, the Trick Truck Challenge is a special “side bet competition” within the regular Trick Truck class series. A special thanks goes out to Trick Truck Challenge sponsors Mastercraft, Geiser Bros., Jimco Racing, Racer Engineering, Bunderson Racing, FOX, King Shocks, KC HiLiTES, Kroyer Racing Engines, Patton Racing Engines, and Dougans Racing Engines.
