World Hare & Hound Championship Wraps Up a Great 2022 Racing Season for Best In The Desert

Dalton Shire Takes Best In The Desert World Hare & Hound Championship
The final race for the Motorcycle and UTV classes took place this past weekend in the high desert and mountains surrounding the historical silver mining town of Tonopah, Nevada. Featuring one race for the Motorcycles and another for the UTVs, it was a great day full of tight and challenging competition.
Open Pro Dalton Shirey rode to the overall win.
One Man, One Machine, One Way.
The Motorcycles took the “land rush” start early Saturday morning on the 110-mile single track racecourse. At the end it was Dalton Shirey riding to the Open Pro and overall victory with a time of 02:52:13.569, followed by Trevor Hunter and Jeremy Newton to round out the top three overall. Other winners included Zach Myers Ironman Pro, Steven Machado Open Expert, Robby Brockman Over 30 Pro, Aiden Poulson 399 Pro, Kimberly Loppnow Women Expert, Tony Nolen Lites Expert, Kevin Trygstad Open Amateur, Joe Kidd Ironman Amateur, Vance Allen Over 40 Expert, and Taylor Baker Ironman Expert.

UTV Race
The second race on Saturday showcased the UTV classes on a 140-mile tight and technical racecourse. Can-Am’s Dustin Jones was first across the finish line to take the Turbo Pro and overall win with an impressive time of 02:33:31.184. Joe Terrana followed Jones by a little over one minute for second Turbo Pro. Finishing third Turbo Pro and overall was Vito Ranuio less than two minutes behind Jones. Ranuio’s third place finish was enough to secure the 2022 Turbo Pro Class Championship for himself.

Other UTV class winners included Michael McFayden taking Trophy Unlimited, Mitchell Alsup in Super Stock, and Josh Row grabbing N/A Pro.

Best In The Desert racers will now celebrate their season and take a well-deserved break during the holidays before getting back to the dirt for the 2023 Parker 250 and Parker 425 January 4-9.
