Posted May 12, 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: LAS VEGAS, NV (May 12, 2021): Arguably the most anticipated event of the 2021 Best In The Desert race calendar, the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC World Hare and Hound Championship Presented by GPR is back and will be bigger and better than ever.

Scheduled for Friday, May 21, 2021 to Sunday, May 23, 2021, the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC World Hare and Hound Championship Presented by GPR is a traditional hare and hound competition open to all motorcycle classes in Tonopah, Nevada. For this event, Best In The Desert is going back to the origins of a “hare and hound” race and will have a rider dubbed as the “hare” starting before the rest of the competitors to set the pace for the race.

Racing legend and three-time AMA National Hare and Hound Champion Russell Pearson will be the “Hare” this year.

The 2021 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC World Hare and Hound Championship Presented by GPR will see racing legend and three-time AMA National Hare and Hound Champion Russell Pearson as the “Hare”. If a competitor catches Pearson before Pit 1 they will be awarded $1,000 on top of normal race winnings and $500 if they catch him before Pit 2. As a 110-plus-mile point-to-point race, it will be a competition testing the best motorcycle racers in the world.

Originally organized by Best In The Desert’s founder Casey Folks in 1984, the 2021 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC World Hare and Hound Championship Presented by GPR will be a return to a beloved event that many in the off-road industry have fond memories of. This year’s hare and hound event, three years in the planning, will feature a youth minicycle race, Men’s, and Women’s Classes all vying for podium spots and overall championship points.

“We are really looking forward to seeing everyone in Tonopah,” commented Best In The Desert CMO Bryan Folks. “In addition to a great race we have plenty of other fun activities scheduled race weekend. Immediately following the race we will have our awards ceremony Saturday evening followed by a party for all the racers at our host hotel, the Tonopah Station.”

“I just returned from Tonopah putting the final touches on the racecourse and in a word, it’s special,” added Best In The Desert Race Operations Mgr. Jeff Phillips. “This racecourse is about as old school as you can get. The fun factor is off the charts while remaining extremely challenging. It’s a point-to-point race with the start and finish in Tonopah. We have three pit stops and each entry can be supported by a single support truck. All three gas stops are within 25 miles of each other so it should be very easy on the pit crews. We look forward to seeing everyone in Tonopah!”

Registration for the race is open until May 16, 2021.
